Replacing red meat with any type of ground chicken or turkey in this house is nearly impossible. Hubs just looks at it and gives me the death stare, “How dare you try to trick me in such an evil way!?” So for dinner this night there was no trickery, just up front honesty and some pleading to “Just try it, please!”
It turned out to be pretty darn yummy. I really enjoyed it! Hubs probably wouldn’t ask for it again, but he ate the whole thing, so I guess it was at least edible. :0)
Ingredients:
- 1 T butter
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 4 oz mushrooms, thinly sliced
- 3/4 lb ground turkey
- 1 T steak sauce
- 1/2 t thyme
- 1/2 t salt
- 1/4 t pepper
- 2 slice whole grain bread, toasted
- 2 slices provolone cheese
In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and mushrooms and cook for 8 minutes, or until tender. Remove veggies from the skillet and keep them warm.
Combine turkey, steak sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper in a small bowl and blend well. Shape into 2 patties. Cook over medium heat for 6 minutes per side, or until done.
Top bread slices with the turkey patties, cover with the onion mixture, top with a slice of cheese and broil the sandwiches until the cheese is melted.
